I have this 2GB IBM HDD which used to be in my firewall machine, but the machine got reset and being ext2 it had errors one of which just happened to be in the superblock and it just got so messy that i decided to reinstall on another Drive, since nothing will recognise the IBM disk as working. Linux wont even look at it, nor will windows. On boot up the drive ID appears but if you go into BIOS it won't autodetect and manually entering the drive parameters doesn't work either.

However if i chuck IBM diagnostics on a floppy and run it it says that the drive is in perfect working condition. Reads, writes...everything...??

I'm lost.

Cheers

I have the same problem (bad superblock) with an ancient 2gb Seagate. Unfortunately I don't even get the drive ID in the BIOS so it looks like the drive is totally dead. Wouldn't mind resurrecting it somehow as it's got 2 divx's on it I havent seen yet. :?

Possibly, and if your willing to loose the data on the disk then I would definately recommend giving it a try.
