Post subject:  canon usb scanner help needed

First post since transferring to linuxathome

Anyway, I have a canon FB630u USB scanner.
I've downloaded SANE source and done the ./configure ./make and (as root) ./make install

It doesn't seem to work.

Doing an insmod canon630u.o results in
couldn't find the kernel version the module was compiled for

I've tried insmod -f with the same result.

I compiled it only 5 minutes ago on the same kernel .. anyone know how I can fix this?

well clearly its trying to run a module built for a different kernel, so try a different tack.
You ran 'make modules && make install_modules'? This puts the modules in the appropriate /lib/modules/kernel-2.x.x.x.. directory ready for use.
You rebooted into the new kernel, right? 'uname -r' might help you identify the kernel that's running. Now check that the modules in the corresponding /lib/modules/kernel-2.x.x.x directory are the newly built ones.

Aren't kernel builds fun? :)

oh, rereading your post... did you rebuild your kernel? Might not be necessary if you can find a source or binary matching your exact kernel, but don't hold your breath. Welcome to the learning curve.

I sympathsize, today I finally got around to building a kernel that can use the cd-burner I purchased 6 months ago. But, heeey, all works great and fixed up a whole host of other things at the same time. Plug and play it ain't.
