Post subject:  Whats your favourite Distro?
Well seeing as this is the new forum, and it will be mainly Linux users, I thought I would ask one of the big questions Whats your favourite Distro? again.

(sorry, its been done to death, but I thought I would like to know as there are quite a few new version out now).

Please feel free to comment as to why you select a particular distro.

I first chose RedHat because it was free with the APC magazine linux pocketbook, and being on dialup at that point in time i didnt have the bandwidth to download other distros.

Redhat works well for what i've been using it for seems nice and stable, timely updates, enough config tools so that if you're a bit unsure you can still get things running before you get confident with hacking conf files....but i am looking forward to getting a few low spec pentium or 486 machines and playing around with Debian and some flavours of BSD (despite the 3GB cap...). Looking to join the melbourne wireless network once i get enough money to build a *nix based wireless access point... :D

Distro wars are silly. If you're comfortable with the distro you use and it gets the job done then it has fulfilled its purpose. So to answer the poll..i dont have a favourite distro. :roll:

I vote Red Hat as well, something I've started with and have been comfortable with.

I voted Red Hat... It's the best mainstream distro in my opinion. One to watch out for is Gentoo. It looks very tasty.

I also voted for Red Hat, but I am still eager to try the security of OpenBSD :)

Okay first a bit of a satement.

By Distro I presume that you mean an Operating System that takes advantage of the Linux Kernel. BSD (In all of its variants) is not technicaly a distro.

In terms of a true distro, well I am a slacker.

As far as my personal preferance, well that will have to goto FreeBSD.

i'm a n000b, although my linux box has been running for ages...

i guess it'll be redhat, since that's the first one i used to set my box up ;)

Glad to be of servous.

Anyway that fact should be common knowledge to all that live in a microsoft free land.
(No offense Mayhem as I respect your opion and realise that you included the BSD's to give posters a greater choice)

Anyway if I were to post in any more detail it would be more than two cents worth (rounded down to free) and I would have to start charging.
