Post subject:  Debian kernel

Hi, I have finally decided to do a kernel compile, after a few months on linux.

i'm running debian (woody) and i downloaded the kernel source code and un tared it into the /usr/src directory, bu when i type "make xconfig" i don't get the nice little screen with buttons it just spits a bunch of code out. How ever when i type "make config" i get the console part of it.

I"m guessing that i'm missing some sort of library?
I was wondering if anyone could tell me which one i need to get.

Thanks.

Not sure about your problem, but personally I just use:

"make menuconfig"

Which is just pretty much a console version of xconfig, all the same features except it is driven with the keyboard from a console.

Perhaps give that a try rather then screwing round with xconfig.
