Post subject:  DI-704P Broadband Router Review

I am currently working on the above mentioned review, not a bad device for those who don't want to setup a Linux box or would rather spend the money on a router.

The review should be posted sometime by the end of next week, so keep an eye out for it on the site :)

Nice review mayhem. We've been using one of these at home with optus cable for the last few months and it seems to be working well. Easy to setup and some good functionality so no complaints from me. :D

Yeah, they are quite decent, only had 2 issues with mine.

1) Used to freeze up alot when no PCs where booted and using the net for upto 24 hours, firmware update fixed that.
2) Seems to not allow me to run an FTP server on any port than 21 and even then its not 100%, but I must admit I haven't really bothered fiddling much as I don't need my FTP anymore.

I am thinking of selling mine now and upgrading to a DI-624 as I might be getting a notebook for work and I would love to have wireless (not to mention I don't use the print server functionality).

Interesting, I don't think ours has ever frozen but then again I don't think it every doesn't get used for more then a day.

And yeah, wireless would be sweet but I'm the only one with a wireless laptop at home and we pretty much wired the whole house a couple years back so it's not really worth it. Also we use the print server.

The freezing issue was sorted in the latest hardware revision.

Mine is a B and thus had the problem, the C revision had a small design change an the firmware update done to it, that was released pretty much around the same time I did the review from memory.

So really depends on what revision you got.

It also didn't happen straight away, after about a month it started, and it would lock up on an almost daily basis if I turned my PC off for the day, firmware upgrade fixed it and added a couple of extra features :)

I always make sure all my hardware is up-to-date with firmware as much as possible.
