Fedora Core 2 Dud or Dodo? Posted Monday, May 31, 2004 @ 8:18 AM by mayhem
Linux.com have posted an interesting review Fedora Core 2, which includes reference to the now famous Windows/Fedora Core 2 dual booting "feature". My favorite quote "Unfortunately, all of FC2's admirable qualities cannot save it from its congenital defects. These range from annoyances such as broken audio drivers to the abomination known as Gnome 2.6, and are serious enough to make the Fedora Project's second litter of pups unsuitable for any use other than as laboratory animals." Quite a indictment don't you think? My fav distro is SuSE but I'm interested to hear others views about this review... (Source: Slashdot)

APC Debian Woody 3.0r2 i386 DVDs Posted Wednesday, May 19, 2004 @ 9:01 PM by mayhem
For those of you who are APC (Australian Personal Computer) Magazine readers, you might have already noticed that the new June 2004 issue (In newsagents this morning, I already grabbed my copy!) comes with a Debian Binary DVD.

The DVD was created by myself (Martin) along with a Source DVD (available upon request from APC at a small price to cover DVD manufacturing) and a quick installation guide (on pages 142-143) to get you up and running.

If you would like information on how the DVDs were created, then click here. Once the issue has finished circulation the DVD ISOs (both the Binary and Source DVD) will be available online (most likely via BitTorrent) for everyone to enjoy.

As far as I know, this is the first distro DVD to make it onto the front cover of APC Magazine, so as you can imagine I am quite proud of it.

If you would like to leave a comment, or ask a question please feel free to email me, or post in the forums.

Using Linux in Your Resume Posted Sunday, May 9, 2004 @ 11:16 PM by mayhem
"In going through a stack of resumes last week, I came across one from a person, certified as expert by both Microsoft and Cisco, who claimed to have 'architected secure network solutions' at a previous employer. When I recovered from the consequent daydream about flying lead balloons, I decided to sort the candidates according to claimed Linux experience--and promptly found a problem worth warning you about.

"People are mentioning Linux on their resumes, but they aren't doing it correctly. Using your Linux skills to help land a better job isn't any different from using Linux anywhere else: Job one is to match what you do to the behaviors and assumptions of the people to whom you're giving that resume..."
